"Great value Diablo clone"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is made by a bunch of the folks who made Diablo, and it shows. A lot of the gameplay aspects are the same. Its aiming for a more cartoony look rather than trying to be particularly ‘realistic’, but the graphics are surprisingly good considering it was an ‘indy’ production made on a small budget with a smaller pricetag. There are only 3 hero classes, breaking down to the basic Melee Fighter, Ranged Weapons Specialist, and Magic User. But they're all really enjoyable in their difference from each other, and its possible to customize them further using the talent trees. For example, the alchemist. If you follow the arcane talents he's like a spell-throwing mage. But if you follow the lore talents he's more like a minion-summoning necromancer. Lots of variety. The game is basically exploring and conquering various levels of dungeons beneath the town of torchlight. There's no learning curve, its incredibly simple to master. Every player character comes with a pet, your choice of cat or dog (no difference combat-wise) which fights at your side. The best innovation to this game is that your pet has an inventory, and you can load them up with goods that you want to sell off. And when you run out of space, you can send your pet off to town to do the trading for you while you carry on hacking n slashing down in the dungeons. It will return after about 2 minutes, and bring you the gold it received for the sales. So, I recommend this game. Its a lot of fun for those times when maybe you dont have internet access or you've run out of bandwidth, or you're stuck on the laptop that's frustrating as all heck trying to play WoW on.

"The best PC action-RPG available" Purchased on Mighty Ape

Action RPG's by their very nature need to strike a fine balance between being fun to play, and grinding out your character development – Torchlight finds this balance perfectly. Not as overly complex as Sacred 2 or Titan Quest, or blessed with a huge open world to explore, Torchligh excels where it matters most – loot drops and levelling. There is only a single town to explore, and many of the randomly generated levels that make up the storyline have a very samey feel to them but the never ending quest to add that one extra skill point or find that piece of better gear is extremely satisfying.

Despite the complete lack of multiplayer and fairly limited character customisations (you are stuck with the stock looking Warrior, Ranger, Mage archetypes and thats it), the game draws you in with colourful visuals and visceral, entertaining battles. In the middle of a Mage battle with your Pet (who can automatically sell your unwanted loot in town for you) and your various other minions, the screen lights up with ethereal fireballs, exploding creatures and arcs of magical lightning.

After 8 hours of gameplay I'm already level 32 with some very cool unique gear and set items. Compared with 16 hours of Sacred 2 to grind out just 17 levels and some average gear. Torchlight is a stand-out Action RPG and I recommend highly to anyone who can't (or can) wait for Diablo 3.

"Visually Appealing Addictive Gameplay"
5 stars"

Torchlight captures what a dungeon crawler should be with visually stunning enviroments and effects, addiction hack and slash mouse clicking and loads of options for character customisation. The addition of a pet as an ally which can carry unwanted loot back to town to sell it is a particularly clever feature, allowing you to continue your adventure uninterrupted.

"For Diablo fans"

Torchlight is a new and improved Diablo even the music is the same. The graphics are awesome and game play user friendly. 3 character classes with a wide range of skills. You even have a pet you can use as a mule and it can go and sell stuff for you so you maximise your time in the dungeons.

"Fun!"

Before I got this game my brothers thought this game looked pretty dumb but ever since it arrived they just can't get enough of it. This game is just pure and simple fun. It's easy to come into and and there is a ton of stuff to do. If you liked diablo then you will love this, as this is pretty much exactly the same but a cartoonified version. It has tonnes of loot, a tonne of monsters and has decent graphics. This is a must buy for anyone into the RPG genre and who is looking for a very time consuming hack and slash.

"Buy this game if you like Diablo (2 or 1, I've not tried 3 yet)"

As a big fan of the first 2 Diablo games (I've not played the 3rd so I don't know anything about that) I played both to absolute death in the late 1990s up to mid 2000s then I had enough and moved on. When the Christchurch earthquakes struck, I suddenly had alot of free time on my hands so I took up gaming again and bought this little gem when it was about $40. I installed it, loaded it up, then didn't stop playing until beating it about 2 months later. It is, in my opinion, not as good as Diablo 2, but it comes mighty close. It's $12 – that's HUGE value for a truly good game.

"Simple, fun Diablo clone"

It might be a clone of Diablo (with a more cartoonish feel), but it's one that's a lot of fun.

All of the things that you like about action RPGs can be found here.

Add to that the fact that it's not hobbled by always-online DRM, and that it takes up so little hard-drive space… You've got a winner.

As an avid fan of the RPG genre, it was always going to be likely that I would enjoy this game. However the truth is – it’s much better than I was expecting it to be, and is the perfect diversion for all of us out there, eagerly awaiting the release of Diablo III. I’ve been pretty much playing non-stop, since purchasing it from Mighty Ape, and I reckon it’s going to be in for a long stay on my computer’s hard drive, due to it’s massive replayability potential, with the various character classes, all requiring different tactics, and fighting approaches – meaning each play through is an entirely new experience. The addition of the pet for your character, is a nice touch, and adds much to the game, with their ability to use spells in battle, and the ease of sending them off to town to sell your loot for you, is much appreciated. With the massive map sizes, and the numerous quests, there is an absolute stack of gaming experience to be had. Now for my one gripe, regarding the game. The main quest, is way too short, and can be completed fairly early on, meaning the majority of your gaming experience is going to be occupied with the various side quests, which although great, simply do not add as much too the overall experience, as does the main quest. All in all in summing up I would say a fantastic gaming experience, which I would highly recommend to anyway mulling over whether or not to purchase this title.

"Fun tide-over, but nothing ground breaking"

It is a fun little game and is cheap, but it does not have the same impact that it's parent games have. It did not manage to grab me away from any of the other games I'm playing, but it is occasionally fun to go clear out a dungeon level while waiting for the kettle to boil.
