Transformers are not high brow movies but they are high concept. Nobody does explosions like Michael Bay (director) and he follows his mantra of more is more. If its entertainment you want grab this, Star Trek, and Terminator Salvation, crank up your surround sound and you'll have some of the highest sounding and grossing movies of 09

"Superb, for what it is"

It's unfortunate to see so many reviews saying Transformers 2 is a crap movie. It's like people expect every film ever made to be a Godfather or a Hitchcock flick, and can't settle for awesome, silly action. Yeah, this movie's plot is very thinly explored, but that's because it isn't the main focus. It contains some of the best visual and special effects I've ever seen, and Michael Bay does his best work on this film, which is shooting mind blowing action. So, empty your head, grab some popcorn and just be entertained rather than prying the lack of an amazing story, you should love this movie.

"Whoa..."
1 stars"

Michael Bay manages to transform a potentially good franchise in to a 2 hour 30 minute steaming pile of scrap metal. I'll begin with some of the positive aspects of the film: The End Credits.

Now I'd like to talk about the rest of the film. Michael Bay knows how to make large explosions, and it seems like that's all he's good at. The film suffers from “Bay Time” (Director Michael Bay has no sense of time and travel!). For example, our characters infiltrate the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC to awaken an old Decepticon “Jetfire”. Jetfire opens a hanger door and everyone exits the Museum…in to a desert…with mountains and hundreds of parked jet planes at an old air base in Arizona. It is clearly not Washington DC. There are so many examples of Bay Time you could create a drinking game based around it.

The plot makes no sense. John Turturro (Agent Simmons) ironically says in the film “get to the plot”. Hey Turturro, I don't think Bay heard you.

Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) finds a shard of the All Spark from the first Transformers (2007) film in his jacket pocket. The shard projects symbols of an ancient alien language in to his brain. Meanwhile Optimus Prime and the Autobots are working with the government to hunt Decepticons. Prime chases down a Decepticon who warns Prime “The fallen will rise again”. Sam teams up with Mikaela (Megan Fox), Agent Simmons, Leo Splitz (Ramon Rodriguez), Bumblebee, Skidz and Mudflap. They are helped by a small Decepticon to locate Jetfire who tells Sam all about the history of the Fallen and then helps Sam read the symbols in his head. They teleport to an old film set from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade to find the Matrix (a blade/key used to power a machine that harnesses the suns energy and destroy it). The Matrix turns to dust when Sam touches it. The military are in Egypt waiting to meet Sam who has the magic fairy dust. With the dust Prime can then kill the Fallen and save the Sun and the Earth. That is truly the best way I can describe the story. It really is an incoherent mess.

In between all of the “story” there are fart jokes, dogs humping, transformers with sexual urges, Decepticons with giant steel testicles, Mikaela's panties, Decepticons panties, Sam's Mum high on Weed and gangsta Autobots that can't read. All of these scenes make up about 40+ minutes of screen time – scenes this film could easily do without. My biggest gripe with the film is the length. 150 minutes is too long for a kids film, but with all the unusual content that is blatantly obvious, I'm not sure if this is a kids film?

It also felt like I was watching a very long “Join the Army” commercial. At the end of it for some weird reason I really wanted to jump out of a jet with a M16 serving my country and drinking Mountain Dew while doing it. The last 30 minutes is just one giant war between the military and the Decepticons. The problem is there are a lot of Decepticons and they all look the same, that's if you can see them in the first place – there is always an explosion of sand in the way or a building or a pillar and when the camera pans around to where the action is… More exploding sand! I thought it was a Spider Man 3 crossover titled “Transformers: Revenge of the Sandman”. The movie was ridiculously long, a dragged out disaster of epic proportions.

"Awesome, just lose yourself in it"
5 stars"

Ok, fair enough its not very believable which I think is most peoples 1st reason for disliking it. What wrong with a little fantasy?? So many crap movies out these days and yet people are quick to shoot this one down in flames.

Brilliant, put short. The best CGI I've seen and the movie is well made in my opinion, something for everyone!!

"Awesome Blockbuster Action Movie"

This Bluray release of the Sequel to 2007s Transformers has great video and audio quality, perfect for showing off the prowess of your Home Theatre system and HDTV.

While the plot can be a little bit cliche, the action sequences more than make up for any of the scriptwriting. With explosions and debris galore, as well as giant robots beating the tar out of each other (literally), buyers will get their money's worth.

On top of that, the extra disc loaded with special features is entertaining and informational, with lots of character and funny bits like setting the house on fire during a special effects sequence… Definitely got my money's worth with this one.
