Description

"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man." Albert Einstein. Keeping bees isn't just for a hobby for country folk and with the Honey Bee in serious decline more and more attention is being turned to putting hives in back gardens, on allotments and even on the top of municipal buildings. Aimed at anyone considering keeping bees Urban Beekeeping takes you through bee keeping, season by season. During which Craig Hughes shows you how to purchase the hive, the equipment and training needed, how to site it and manage it month by month to ensure that keeping bees is a relaxing pastime that could lead to commercial success as well as a venture that is managed safely with you very much in control. Whilst not attempting to do away with instruction with a bee keeper, preferably one prescribed by the Beekeepers Society, this book acts as an ideal companion. Filled with solid, sensible advice by someone with over 30 years of beekeeping experience this book takes you, step-by-step, through the beekeeping experience letting you know what to expect, the pitfalls, as well as the joys of joining one of the world's oldest professions.
