"Love this book"
5 stars"

I wanted it for years and was finally gifted a copy. Pretty comprehensive – I think everything I've tried to ID so far has been in it. The pictures are great and the descriptions informative.

"Excellent"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Have only looked at it as I bought it as a present for grandchild. It looks really interesting and informative and succinct so would be a quick reference guide to use as well.

"A fantastic book of insects"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

An awesomely detailed book, great for identification of insects and a must have for all insect fanatics

Description

This excellent book focuses on insects only, not on other invertebrates (spiders, centipedes, worms, snails, slugs, etc) as in the best-selling Life-Size Guide to Insects published in August 1999. Unlike the Life-Size Guide, this book identifies smaller insects on large panels, and includes a complete coverage of New Zealand butterflies. The text is very detailed and covers over 350 insects.

Displaying more than 650 colour photographs, this book is both a field guide and a a gallery. It covers native and introduced insects of the home, garden and farm, forest, mountains, lakes and streams - an often overlooked side of New Zealand wildlife.

Accolades

LIANZA Elsie Locke Award Winner 2003.
Shortlisted for New Zealand Post Children's Book Award: Non-Fiction Award 2003.
