50 Years Of The Mini: Victory At Bathurst
Fifty years ago the mighty Mini Cooper S conquered Mountain Panorama and the famous Bathurst 500/1000. Not only that, but in that 1966 Great Race the flying little ‘Bricks’ utterly trounced the bigger, more powerful V8s, filling the first nine outright places! To celebrate the half-century anniversary of the extraordinary success of the Mini at Bathurst, we salute the marque with this special 18-minute highlights package of that victory.
In addition, we have unearthed a very special documentary on the famous 1960s Neptune Racing Team which includes fantastic footage of Peter Manton in his giant-killing 997cc Mini Cooper. The film even features Manton’s now-legendary crash at Warwick Farm in August, 1965, as well as some brilliant footage of Manton and other Mini stars of the day battling the big Mustangs of Norm Beechey, Ian Geoghegan and Bob Jane.
We then look at some classic Australian touring car action from the vaults of ABC Television from Warwick Farm in NSW, and to complete this celebration we take in some current-day historic Mini racing from the Australian Muscle Car Masters event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
