Author Biography:

CATHERINE L. BROWN has been a planner for the Georgia Department of Defense, a program coordinator for the U.S.-Georgia China Council, and a library assistant. She is the author of The Urban South (Greenwood Press, 1989). JAMES O. WHEELER is the Merle Prunty, Jr., Professor of Geography at the University of Georgia, Athens. He is the author of Economic Geography, The Urban Circulation Noose, American Metropolitan Systems, A Dictionary of Quotations in Geography, and over 70 journal articles. He is coeditor of the bi-monthly journal, Urban Geography.
