Author Biography:

Amanda Claridge is Professor of Roman Archaeology at Royal Holloway University of London. Her publications include 'Roman Ostia' Revisited: Archaeological and Historical Papers in Memory of Russell Meiggs (edited with Anna Gallina-Zevi, 1996), Early Christian and Medieval Antiquities: Other Mosaics, Paintings, Sarcophagi and Small Objects (with John Osborne, 1998), and Rome: An Oxford Archaeological Guide (2010). Claire Holleran is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Liverpool. She is co-editor of the upcoming Demography and the Graeco-Roman World (with April Pudsey, 2011) and author of Shopping in Ancient Rome: the Retail Trade in the Late Republic and the Principate (publishing 2012).
