Description

In A Gentle Bridge Ms. Carman discusses using mindful movement to create a gentle bridge between our physical and spiritual selves. While sharing her experience learning and teaching the Pilates Method, she also discusses her insights into the similarities between the Pilates approach to movement and spiritual themes she found in the Conversations with God books by Neale Donald Walsch. Throughout the text Ms. Carman offers opportunities to practice specific physical techniques that promote better posture. She also offers suggestions that help the reader become more aware of their own unconscious thoughts and methods to gain practical control over the more negative thoughts, replacing them with more positive ones. Finally, Ms. Carman encourages the reader to combine the improved thought with the improved posture, creating the "mind/body/spirit" connection in a very practical way.

Author Biography:

Kathleen was introduced to Pilates in 1985 when she was between professional jazz dance gigs. She met, studied with and eventually worked for Elizabeth Jones-Boswell, M.Ed., who had rehabilitated herself from a devastating back injury and two surgeries, using the Pilates Method. Kathleen found that Pilates was not only useful for rehabilitation work, she noticed it also improved her own dancing and skiing. She likes to say that Pilates is the vegetables to her dancing that is dessert. After teaching Pilates for about a decade, Kathleen found the Conversations with God books by Neale Donald Walsch. She noticed many similarities between the Pilates approach to movement and the spiritual themes in the CWG books. This added a much deeper level to her Pilates practice and continues to provide, in a practical way, the 'mind/body/spirit' connection we talk about. Kathleen helps her clients find that connection within themselves while helping them realize they don't need to feel the burn to enjoy living in their body and to have the body they want.
