Description

The latest updated edition of this fact-filled, colorful look at the amazing world of birds includes two brand new illustrations and a call to action to protect these beautiful creatures. In simple yet informative language, A Place for Birds introduces young readers to the ways human action or inaction can affect bird populations and opens kids' minds to a wide range of environmental issues. Describing various examples, the text provides an intriguing look at birds, at the ecosystems that support their survival, and at the efforts of some people to save them. At the end of the book, the author offers readers a list of things they can do to help protect these special creatures in their own communities.

Author Biography:

Melissa Stewart earned degrees from Union College and New York University and worked as an editor. She is the author of more than 150 books. The idea for the Place for... books came to her while she was writing an article for a magazine. She wanted young readers to understand how their choices and actions can have a direct impact on the creatures that share our world. Higgins Bond received a B.F.A from the Memphis College of Art. Her work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, and many other venues. She has produced illustrations for NBC television, The Nature Conservancy, and the Smithsonian Institution, as well as for many advertising firms.
