Prince Chail of Enulam and Princess Le'ell of rival kingdom Zondae find themselves thrust between their kingdoms as they are pushed toward a war that could mean the extinction of one or both of them. Wanting to avoid the coming war at any cost, they investigate attacks on both sides of the border that are inching them toward conflict, only to discover that there is far more going on than anyone thinks, and along the way each discovers the other.
