I bought this for my 10 year old niece and was pleasantly surprised that it plays very well for a simplified version of Agricola. Had 3 games with the first game getting the rules wrong. After that first game I wasn't too sure about it but the next 2 games with the rules ironed out my initial reservations about the game were relieved and it was a nice fit for her as a gateway game at her level but enough for more seasoned gamer's to feel like they are playing a decent light worker placement strategy game with multiple ways to score points to win.
Scoring seems nicely balanced too however possibly grain is a bit OP. I think only because new players tend to ignore it in favour of the animals and its less obvious that it can score very well. If another player was competing for it I think it probably would be more difficult to score well focusing on it.
My rating is 4 stars and not 5 simply cause I personally prefer deeper games but obviously these are too much for kids. I was a bit worried this might be too much for her too but she handled the challenge very well. I'm not sure how she would rate it but the third game was her request to play it so that's a positive sign.
I think the age rating was 8+ which is possibly about right however I would say 10 to be safe as I think depending on the child some 8 and 9 year olds may struggle.
For what it is and its target audience I can highly recommend it as a family and gateway game.
