Description

AMPK has emerged as an important integrator of signals that control energy balance through the regulation of multiple biochemical pathways in eukaryotes. This book focuses on the implications of AMPK as a master metabolic regulator in diseases, including new methods and animal models. The contributions are written by leading experts in the field and give an extensive overview of the current knowledge of AMPK biology and the role of AMPK in health and disease. 

Author Biography:

Mario D Cordero is Research Associate at the University of Sevilla, Laboratory of Biological Research. He studies the role of AMPK in the metabolic abnormalities of the central nervous system in psychiatric diseases, and the implication of AMPK in the mechanism of pain and inflammation. He is also involved in drug trials using AMPK activators in rare diseases.     Benoit Viollet leads a research team at the Institut Cochin, Paris, which studies the physiological role of AMPK in cellular energy balance and the integrated stress response such as exercise, as well as nutrient and hormonal signals. The work includes studies of the therapeutic opportunity of AMPK in metabolic abnormalities associated with type 2 diabetes and obesity.
