Description

Clinicians are increasingly required to use information and communications technology to manage patients and records. Understanding the variables that influence clinician adoption and use of technology is an ongoing challenge and important requirement for successful implementation of information systems. This research applied theories from the broader literature on information technology, and specifically, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT)developed by Venkatesh, et al. to investigate clinician acceptance of a guideline based patient registry system for chronic disease management in a health authority. Action research methodology combining the UTAUT questionnaire, interviews, and field observations were used to determine variables influencing clinician adoption.
