All primary school teachers are required to teach art as part of the National Curriculum and yet many may have little background in the subject. The range of art techniques that they are supposed to teach is enormous - for 5-6 years olds they are required to teach weaving and sculpture as well as mark making and painting. This series of books aims to provide the classroom teacher not only with a wide variety of lesson plans but also a CD-ROM filled with masterclasses, photocopiables, a virtual gallery for the children, and a wealth of images which can be used in the course of the lessons. Each book contains lesson plans covering six topics: drawing, painting, printing, collage & textiles, sculpture and digital media. The lesson plans, catering for sessions of different lengths, can be used singly or in conjunction. Vocabulary, resource lists, learning objectives, assessment and differentiation notes as well as suggestions for applications with other classroom subjects are included. With each book will be a CD-ROM which will provide the teacher with a wealth of resources. Each CD-ROM will contain: images (famous paintings and the work of current artists and children as well as general images that support the lessons); a virtual gallery in which the children can hang their own shows; masterclasses which show the teacher how to do specific art techniques such as coiling or screenprinting, and resource materials. All in all, these books will give primary teachers all the resources they will need to teach art to their classses. It can be used as a complete art scheme or as a resource for teachers who are more comfortable with teaching art.
