Born in Paris, Asa (Pronounced Asha) left France at the age of two returning to her family’s home in Lagos, Nigeria, a city over flowing with people and buzzing with energy, but also a home deeply rooted in spirituality. As the only girl in a family of four and with parents who were often absent, Asa was a lonely child often left to the sounds of her father’s record collection, a mix of soul classics and Nigerian music and that’s where Asa found her escape.

Highly personal but totally universal, Asa’s music crosses all frontiers, not just geographical but also those of the heart and soul and defies genres blending funk, pop, jazz, R&B and soul with reggae also making an appearance on “Fire On The Mountain”.

Asa has been described as a “Franco-Nigerian Corrine Bailey-Rae” with a melodic fusion of influences including Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Lauren Hill and Erykah Badu, fronted by her acoustic guitar and willingness to write cliché-free lyrics.
