Description

A slickrock mesa and a citadel tucked snugly beneath the rampart: majestic nature with a human touch that provides prospects for the painter and for the writer who responds to the painting. The nexus between art and poetry has a long history, extended here in Believing Is Seeing by painter Dave Burns and poet Ned Mackey.

Author Biography:

Dave Burns, a native of Montana, has lived and worked as an architect in Tucson, Arizona for the last thirty-five years. After working as an architect for over forty years, Dave retired to pursue one of his dreams -- painting. Mostly self-taught, his pastels and oil paintings represent the diversity of the landscape of the West and his love of this magnificent environment. The power of nature is ever present in the quiet and in the solitude of his walks and inspires him to share his emotional connections to these special places through his paintings. Ned Mackey grew up in Bend, Oregon and started his college career at the University of Oregon. He graduated from the University of Arizona with Master's degree in Education and indecision after several changes of his major. He tried advertising, journalism, and psychology before opting for teaching when family pressure (a wife and children) helped him make up his mind. He taught English in high schools in Tucson for thirty-six years, coaching cross country and track and field for twenty of them. He and his wife, Pat, have three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren whom they dote on.
