In the city of Laquan McDonald and in the season when some white Americans are beginning to learn that black lives matter, it would be absurd to set myself up as an apologist for the white gaze. I seek to describe its interiority, and to suggest something of what it's like to live within its limitations.

Author Biography:

Benjamin Goluboff teaches English at Lake Forest College, near Chicago. He was written on a variety of subjects in American literature including Ken Kesey, Emily Dickinson, and the literature of the Vietnam war, and has placed imaginative writing -- poetry, fiction, and essays -- in many small-press magazines. He is the author of Ho Chi Minh: A Speculative Life in Verse, and Other Poems (Urban Farmhouse Press, 2017).
