This young readers' edition of Black Poppies is aimed at children from the ages of 8 to 12. and illuminates fascinating stories of Black British servicemen who fought on the battlefields in the First World War. Their stories of bravery and sacrifice are told in a series of chapters that focus on individuals. The book also highlights the lives of some of the Black Britons who supported the war effort on the Home Front. These chapters will include the lives of individual women and children. The book concludes with the battles on the streets of London during the Race Riots of 1919, in which Black Britons fought for equality and acceptance.
