BLUE: A HUE ARE YOU ANTHOLOGY, the second in a series focused on color, aims to capture some of the many ways poets, writers, and visual artists perceive and respond to blue in all of its various names and shades. An eclectic and emotive collection (oh, how mercurial is blue!) including intriguing works from early masters to contemporary voices notable and new, BLUE uniquely expresses the fluid interplay of color and words. Readers should be prepared to feel irresistibly taken by the color as if floating in a tranquil sea, or bathed in a haunting melancholy so seductive it seems to shine like sapphires steeped in desire.
Curated especially for Jambu Press by guest editor Virginia Barrett, the poems, prose, and art in this anthology explore expansive, diverse, and sometimes unexpected subjects such as blue in art and myth, blue objects in our lives, rare blue finds in flora and fauna, blue as a conjurer of ghostly encounters, feeling the blues or musing on the music given the name, sudden dreamy moments evoked by the color, blue as metaphor for ethereal thoughts, and other brilliant blue poetic interplays.

Author Biography:
Virginia Barrett is a poet, writer, artist, editor, and educator. She earned her MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco where she was poetry editor of Switchback. Her six books of poetry include Between Looking (Finishing Line Press, 2019) and CROSSING HAIGHT-SAN FRANCISCO POEMS (Jambu Press, 2018). Her prose has appeared in The Writer's Chronicle, The Raven's Perch, Awakenings and elsewhere. Lead designer for LIGHT ON THE WALLS OF LIFE-A TRIBUTE ANTHOLOGY TO LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI (Jambu Press, 2022), she is also the editor of four anthologies including RED: A HUE ARE YOU ANTHOLOGY (Jambu Press, 2023). She has taught poetry, creative writing, and visual art throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for over two decades, including in the MFA in Writing program at the University of San Francisco.
