Description

Ceramic Catalysts: Materials, Strategies and Applications focuses on synthesis techniques and applications of ceramic materials in heterogenous catalysis. In order to enable an affordable, sustainable, low-carbon economy, research activities have been intensified in this area over recent years. The rapid accumulation of results has been evaluated and summarized by recognized experts working in their respective fields in the form of separate and complementary chapters. The first part of the book is dedicated to synthesis and catalytic applications of different categories of ceramics that include both porous ceramics and ceramic composites. Catalytic applications of ceramics mainly involving waste-water treatment, combustion reactions, and fine chemical synthesis are also discussed. Use of ceramics as catalyst supports is also given importance in the book. The book is intended to act as a valuable reference resource for both researchers and postgraduate students with key emphasis on the following areas of research: Recent techniques for the synthesis of different ceramics; specific characteristics of each type of ceramics for catalytic applications; different types of catalyzed reactions based on inherent chemical characteristics and sustainable technologies based on ceramic catalysts. The book will be an essential reference resource for industrial and academic researchers, materials scientists, chemists, and environmental scientists.

Author Biography:

After completing her master’s degree at Mahatma Gandhi University and PhD on catalysis by pillared montmorillonites at Cochin University of Science and Technology, Manju Kurian joined as an assistant Professor at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, India. She is currently, the Dean of Research at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, an autonomous institution. She also serves as an Editorial Board Member of ‘Nanostructures and Nano Objects’ [Elsevier]. Her research interests encompass Oxide nanomaterials, Carbon Dots, Nanocatalysis and Environmental Engineering. Smitha Thankachan is now working as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, India after completing her postgraduation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, India and Master of Philosophy from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, India. She completed her Doctoral degree on ‘Characterization of rare earth doped magnesium ferrite nano particles and its catalytic activity’ from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, India. Her research interests include nanomagnetic materials, photocatalysis and multiferroics. Dr. Swapna S. Nair is currently chairing the Department of Physics Central University of Kerala. After receiving Ph.D. from CUSAT, India, (2007) she worked in different European Labs as Post-Doctoral Investigator. She had worked as an Assistant Professor in International School of Photonics, CUSAT, India and has more than twenty years of research experience in fabrication of functional nanomaterials/structures for optical, electronic (storage/memory/PV) and biosensing/imaging applications. She has published/edited 2 books, 4 book chapters, 58 peer reviewed research articles and has a patent to her credit. Her major research areas are engineering novel nanomaterials for RAMs, Spintronics, energy harvesters, and sensing/imaging applications.
