Author Biography:

Michel Bouttier was born in 1921 at Chateaudouble (Drome). He gained an Arts degree at the University of Grenoble and then studied theology at Geneva, Basel, and Strasbourg. For seventeen years he exercised a pastoral ministry in the Reformed Church of France, first of all in the Gard, and then at Lyons. From 1964 he taught New Testament in the Protestant Theological Faculty of Montpellier. He has published several articles and New Testament studies in Foi et Vie and has collaborated in Vocabulaire Biblique. In 1962 his book En Christ--a study of exegesis and of Pauline theology--was published and in 1964 La condition chretienne selon Saint Paul (of which the present book is a translation).
