Description

A monograph on the prospects for social equality in post-war Britain, followed by detailed consideration of what has in fact been achieved. Marshall discusses citizenship and social equality and Bottomore takes up these themes and discusses them in the wider perspective of Western and Eastern Europe. The experience of the past 40 years has clearly shown the importance of citizenship as a complex of civil, political and social rights and this is examined in the context of ethnic minority and women's rights, the concept of the nation state and socialist movements and aspirations.
