Author Biography:

Mary Marian is a clinical nutrition research specialist and clinical lecturer with the College of Medicine and Arizona Cancer Center at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Her areas of focus include nutrition for disease prevention, nutrition support, and integrative medicine. Mary has been a clinical dietitian for over 20 years and has published many chapters and articles in peer-reviewed publications as well as served as an editor or co-editor for several textbooks and publications. Dr. Scott A. Shikora is a Professor of Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and the Chief of Bariatric Surgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He did his surgical residency and Nutrition Support fellowship at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He is a past president of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and is on the Executive Council for the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Shikora is an Associate Editor of two surgical journals and has co-edited two nutritional textbooks. Mary Krystofiak Russell, MS, RD, LDN, CNSD, serves as the Interim Director, Nutrition Services, University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. Previously, Mary was the director and interim director of the Nutrition Services Department of Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Mary gained 13 years of progressive experience at Duke as a dietitian clinician, including 10 years on the adult Nutrition Support Service, and extensive experience with surgery, trauma, transplant, and medical intensive care unit patients. She is the author or co-author of multiple articles and chapters on nutrition support topics and has spoken at numerous local, regional, national and international meetings.
