"Thought-provoking, cleverly plotted and emotionally satisfying"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is an ambitious novel. It is a sextet – six voices that tell different but related stories. It ranges in genre from fast-paced action to sci-fi to nineteenth century journal – and each adds to the multi-layered texture of the novel. As well as thought-provoking (it takes on big issues) and clever it is ultimately emotionally satisfying. Highly recommended.

"Movie looks great-"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

I saw this trailer on YouTube but never had heard of the book,(the movie looks really good)and with great reviews already given I was really wrapped when I came across it on Mighty Ape and for $23.99 the price was way better then the other book stores so all'n'all great price and a great book to read.

Description

A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan's California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified ‘dinery server’ on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation – the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other's echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small. In his extraordinary third novel, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of language, genre and time to offer a meditation on humanity's dangerous will to power, and where it may lead us.
