Description

Over a brief period between October 1892 and the June, 1893, Henry Starr conducts a criminal rampage in the Cherokee Nation (the Northeast area of the Indian Territory of Oklahoma) and the surrounding states of Kansas and Arkansas the likes of which had rarely, if ever, been seen. Just nineteen years of age at the start of his spree, Starr, with the assistance of his small gang, robs at least three train depots, four general stores, two banks, and one train. He also shoots and kills a U.S. Deputy Marshal. Despite his arrest in 1893, this is just the beginning for Henry Starr. The story of Henry Starr's life is a conglomerate of fact, falsehood, accuracies, inaccuracies, lawful record, myth, embellishment, and pure fiction. In short, his life defines "American Legend". This "King of the Bank Robbers" born of mixed heritage is confronted from an early age with two paths. Is Starr simply of weak character, or is he a victim of circumstances beyond his control? Read the tale of his exploits in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) of the 1890's. The Old West is fitfully coming to a close. Will Henry Starr change with the times, or will he cling to a past which can no longer exist? See the price he must pay as a seemingly unforgiving system of justice relentlessly pursues him. Yet, this same system continually affords him ample opportunity to reform. The novel, though fictionalized, is largely based on the historical record, with over 170 sources cited.
