Country Calendar: 50th Anniversary
Ever wondered what it would be like to be a Jersey Cow, why beef costs are constantly rising or what troubles you would face farming Sheep and cattle in central Auckland? The team at Country Calendar did, and over the years, they have addressed all of these issues and more …
At 50 years old Country Calendar is New Zealand’s longest running programme, and is one of only a handful of programmes in the world that can claim this honour.
In this special collection we revisit farming families that have previously featured on Country Calendar, as well as taking a look back at some of the more unique stories, and people, we have featured along the way – Cows and Sheep is not all that Country Calendar has covered (but when we do we sure do it well!)
Each disc also contains a ‘special feature’ – items from the very first Country Calendar episode broadcast in 1966, our presenters reflecting on the show’s success when it was only a spritely 19 years old, and of course, the collection would be incomplete without some of our quirky Country Calendar Spoofs – although many of you may not have seen these ones before.
TVNZ is pleased to present a collection of stories not previously released on DVD to both commemorate and reflect on 50 Golden Years of rural life and broadcasting in New Zealand.
Note: Quality of footage in some items is indicative of age of the footage
