Description

Cyanobacteria: Metabolisms to Molecules covers diversity, fundamental metabolisms, crucial metabolities, their synthesis, and bioinformatics topics surrounding cyanobacteria, an organism regarded as the most important organism to sustain life on the planet during ancient times. Cyanobacteria are among the first pioneering communities on various harsh habitat, hydrarch or xerarch, which finally facilitate the emergence of vast communities including higher plants. Being the progenitor of chloroplast, the cyanobacterial metabolisms has always fascinated microbiologists. Additionally, the ability of these prokaryotes to produce valuable and prolific sources of natural products signified their role in an array of industrial sectors. Therefore, in this book, the book's authors accumulate the current knowledge of cyanobacterial metabolisms and molecules as a valuable asset for students, researchers, and biotechnologists.

Author Biography:

Dr. Arun Kumar Mishra, PhD is currently as a Senior Professor at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. He has 28 years of teaching and research experience. He has specialization in cyanobacterial systematics, microbial physiology, stress signalling, genetics, and proteomics. His research area comprised of deciphering the fundamental metabolisms of cyanobacteria and the physiological and biochemical basis of stress tolerance among microbes. Additionally, he has also successfully deciphered the mechanism of organophosphate bioremediation by Fischerella sp. LMGA1. Furthermore, he has successfully accomplished research projects sponsored by eminent research agencies like Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, University Grant Commission and Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India. He has also edited a book on cyanobacteria entitled, Cyanobacteria: From Basic Sciences to Applications, published by Elsevier in the year 2019 Dr. Satya Shila Singh (Ph.D.) is serving as a professor in the Department of Botany, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. She is actively engaged in UG and PG teaching and possesses 11 and 26 years of teaching and research experiences, respectively. Her area of expertise mainly includes the isolation and characterization of different diazotrophic cyanobacterial strains from various unexplored regions of Chhattisgarh, by using polyphasic approach. Dr. Singh has also studied the responses of diazotrophic cyanobacterial strains to toxic pollutants like heavy metals, pesticide and surfactants. At present, her research are focused on the study of thermophilic cyanobacterial diversity from Indian hot springs and understanding their metabolic behavior, bioremediation prospects, ability to synthesize industrially and pharmaceutically valuable compounds. She has already discovered many novel cyanobacterial species. In addition, she has edited number of books published by national and international publishing house
