Dead Space – Downfall is the animated prequel to the EA game, Dead Space. It tells the story of events of the crew of the planet-cracker class ship, the USG Ishimura. Ending moments before Isaac Clarke and the crew of the USG Kellion's attempt to dock with the aforementioned ship.
The animation is decent and very bloody at points throughout the feature and it wears and R18 classification for a reason. If you're shy of over-gratuitous violence and copious amounts of cursing, then this may not be the one for you!
However, if you're a fan of the game or looking to feed an insatiable need for more backstory, you've come to the right place. Downfall will help flesh-out some of the moments from the game and there are parts that have a familiar “deja vu” to them. On the topic of familiarity, the voices of characters found in the game are voiced by the same actors in the animation.
Also the soundtrack on the DVD is in 5.1 Dolby Digital and displayed in 16:9 Widescreen, so if you have the Home Cinema setup to match, you're able to take advantage of that and are in for a treat.
To recap, if you're fan of the game looking for some backstory, violence and great sound, this may be a purchase worthy of your collection.
