Description

Debt is older than independence on Latin America. For poor countries around the world, especially in Africa, debts is the main cause of underdevelopment. The creditor countries in the North have been taking money from the poor countries of the South in interest and loan repayments that are sometimes triple the amount of aid sent by those same creditor companies. This work looks at the growing ineqality between rich and poor, the effects of economic globalization on the lives of the poor majority in debtor countries, and how the analysis of debt can help to understand how inequality is perpetuated.
