Description

In an America where abortion has been legal for thirty-five years, and 53% of its citizens consider themselves pro-choice (Gallup, 2008), access to abortion can be surprisingly difficult if not impossible: even in cases of rape, imminent threat to the mother's life, or complicated miscarriage-and even with a willing doctor. In Dispatches from the Abortion Wars, Joffe explores the cultural, political, and economic forces that conspire to block or deny women seeking care and doctors seeking to provide it.
