"For all your 'alien in a lighthouse' needs"

Forever to be known as “the one in the lighthouse”, this story is one of the show's most atmospheric and suspenseful. Simple plot, simple set, simple effects… But it works.

"A great story, simply told."

For a 4-episode long story set in one tiny location, it's actually pretty good. Tom Baker is a favourite Doctor for many fans, and this story had more than one point of interest.

In Doctor Who folklore, among his great rivals are the Sontarans, who have been locked in war with the Rutans for millenia. Until now, we'd never seen a Rutan…and it's not really what you'd expect. But that's how the writer Terrance Dicks conceived it. He's a master author, and a true legend of the Whoniverse, having novelized many of the classic stories, and writing for the show for over a decade.

It's classic Doctor Who, and I was pleasantly surprised by it's quality.

Starring Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor. A mysterious light in the sky, an unnatural glow in the ocean and a thick fog bring terror to the lighthouse keepers of Fang Rock.

When the Doctor and Leela arrive, the first death has already cast doubt on the safety of the lighthouse. Then the Doctor discovers something more terrifying and evil than even he could have imagined.

Horror at Fang Rock is a classic adventure story that was delivered in response to criticisms of the previous season of Doctor Who (that included such masterpieces as The Talons of Weng Chiang). New producer, Graham Williams was given the task of toning down what were described as ‘sadistic’ and ‘violent’ elements and themes that had received criticism over the previous three years.

Director Paddy Russell chose an excellent cast to bring the brilliant script to life and her technical team demonstrated their expertise and attention to detail, ensuring that Horror of Fang Rock remains among the most highly-acclaimed Doctor Who stories of them all.
