Well look, it's not “high culture” literature, it is an easy to read descriptive fantasy novel, written in a setting based in the Dragon Age RPG computer games. Which is probably why you're reading this and considering buying the novel. I found it pleasant and easy to read, a little deeper in description than my initial prejudiced expectations and it potentially will provide greater immersion for future products in this setting.

It is placed chronologically after the events of Kirkwall.
