Description

This official book is specifically designed to help LGV drivers prepare for their initial Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) by focusing on the syllabus of the two new modules: Case Studies and the Practical Demonstration Test. A guide to understanding a driver's work for CPC Modules 2 and 4, this book, from the Driving Standards Agency, provides essential preparation for the new Driver CPC. This book complements "The Official DSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles" (ISBN 9780115528996) which provides all the detailed information required by drivers to obtain and retain their Driver CPC qualification. It explains why the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence has been introduced and the process of gaining Driver CPC. It provides detailed information about the new Case Studies module including two official examples. It includes essential guidance on the subject areas that will be tested in the case studies: driving to optimise fuel consumption and to carry loads smoothly and safely; taking good care of loads; knowing the regulations and how they are administered, e.g. EU and domestic drivers' hours; understanding the rules and laws that govern the carrying of loads; health and safety behind the wheel and when carrying out other duties; looking after yourself physically and ensuring that you are fit for work, e.g. understanding the effects of diet, drugs and alcohol; how to recognise an emergency and act effectively, e.g. fires and other incidents; understanding how the role of an LGV driver fits into the company/organisation; and, the economic importance of the LGV sector within the transport industry. This book describes what drivers will be tested on in the new Practical Demonstration Test and how they will be tested: load care and comfort - use of apparatus; loading the vehicle safely; prevention of criminality and trafficking of illegal immigrants; prevention of physical risks; and, ability to assess emergency situations. This title includes lively full colour photography throughout, to explain key principles and techniques. It contains a glossary of technical terms. This official guide has been prepared in close consultation with a working group of industry experts and experienced LGV trainers and is up-to-date with current industry thinking.
