Description

Dynamite Nashville explores a series of unsolved civil rights era bombings in Nashville. Betsy Phillips, who was named Best Nashville Historian by The Nashville Scene, believes she has solved those bombings. She has gained access to FBI files, that the FBI had originally claimed were unattainable until representative Jim Cooper intervened on Phillips' behalf. At the heart of the story is an unlikely relationship between the KKK and law enforcement. It's also the story of one of the earliest domestic terrorist cells in the USA. The cell who bombed Nashville would later be involved in a majority of the bombings in the southern United States during the civil rights era, including the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama. Both the New York Times and Washington Post has expressed interest in the book. It's important to note that Phillips is head of marketing at Vanderbilt University Press.
