Description

Fisheries sector plays a significant role in Indian economy. The main objective of motorization is technological upgradation of traditional sector, to help the fishermen to reduce their physical strain and to extend their area of fishing operations, mainly to increase the fish catch, income and thereby to raise their socio-economic status. Motorization programme is being implemented by extending credit facilities to fishers through nationalized banks. This field based study was carried out by Council for Social Development (CSD), Hyderabad, to assess the impact of motorization of traditional crafts on marine fishing households with the financial assistance of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The present book makes clear that motorization helped the fishers in improving their living standards. It recommends for extending credit facilities to other poor traditional craft owning households for motorization of their traditional crafts to improve their catches and socio-economic conditions. This book is very much useful for planners, researchers and administrators in formulating policies and programmes.
