Description

Elvis meets The Beatles. HOW did John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr ever get to America in the first place? How did Elvis Presley, a poor boy from the Tennessee backwoods, arrive in Hollywood? This book is a rare focus on the lives and careers of five of the most famous entertainers ever. It converges on the night the greatest summit in rock 'n roll history took place and no one is better equipped to tell the story of that night than Chris Hutchins for not only was he the only writer there, he set the meeting up! When they first met in a Hamburg night club in 1962 John Lennon asked Hutchins if he ever thought he'd be able to meet the man they called 'the King'. The writer from the NME said he would try and arrange it - one day . . . That day came in August 1965 when Hutchins - after cultivating a friendship with Presley's legendary manager Colonel Tom Parker and by now on tour with the Beatles - took the group to Elvis's home for a party. Collaborating with fellow author Peter Thompson, Hutchins has written this detailed and uncompromisingly frank account of what happened that night - and the strange events that followed. It's packed with rock 'n roll stories.

Author Biography:

THE writer and broadcaster Chris Hutchins is an established author of highly acclaimed biographies of the rich, the famous and the royals. His first, Fergie Confidential, was an intimate biography of the Duchess of York and chronicled her troubled marriage to the Queen's favourite son, Prince Andrew. He followed this with a revelatory biography of the late Princess of Wales, Diana's Nightmare: The Family, a book which so established him as an authority on the royals that he was invited to cover Prince Charles' subsequent marriage for American television. Books that followed include ATHINA: The Last Onassis, which probed deeply into the world of the Onassis dynasty and GOLDSMITH: Money, Women and Power, the biography of the late billionaire entrepreneur, Sir James Goldsmith. More recently Hutchins turned his attention to matters Russian with fearless biographies of the country's leader, PUTIN, and best-known oligarch, ABRAMOVICH: The billionaire from nowhere. The author returned to the royal stage with a revealing book about Diana's son, HARRY: The People's Prince. Then it was back to rock'n roll with THE BEATLES: Messages from John, Paul George and Ringo which featured on its cover one of the postcards John Lennon sent to the author during his travels and, more recently ELVIS A Personal Memoir. As Prince Charles' former secretary Mark Bolland says of him: 'Chris Hutchins seems to have seen and done it all . . . ' Follow Chris on Twitter: @ChrisHutchinsFn Peter Thompson, born in Melbourne, is the author of twenty books including biographies on the Princess of Wales, the Duchess of York, Athina Onassis and Jack Nicholson, all of which were written in collaboration with Chris Hutchins.
