Picking up from book #1 Billy and Randy have finished there trapping season, returning to Albany to sell their furs to Bill Owlett and start back training horses and forging steel. Pierre has expanded the forging business over the winter, Randy has grown during the winter, and has become a true man of the wilderness. Then Randy finds out that he has been working as a partner in the trapping business. Billy lost Little Deer about a year ago on a trip to the east, on returning to Albany he finds a young lady, they fall in love and get married. The stable is attacked many times by the French trying to steal Billey's horses, now with a signal the horses all charge the stable for a treat when danger is spotted. The French keep trying to attack the stable and the English keep getting to the stable too late to do anything other than haul off the dead French men. General Braddock comes to town before he leads an army into Ohio to attack the French and finds himself dead and George Washington leads what is left of the British Army back to Virginia. Billy started a wagon business to go along with his forge shop and draft horse operation, on a trip to New Haven to purchase two wagons for the fort commander in Albany. Billy and Randy meet Colonel George Washington and start to make plans to send the British back to England.
