The primary goal of this book is to advance understanding of the European integration of the former SFRJ republics, Croatia and Montenegro. This volume does not propose a new integration theory and it goes beyond the classic analysis of "how policies are made in Brussels". Instead, it raises many questions about the eastern enlargement. What does Europeanization of the Balkan region really mean? Does the EU need the Balkans just the way it is? What do the main theories of constructivism and geopolitics have to say about the enlargement to the Western Balkans? What factors drive the enlargement to this realm?
