Description

I will never forget that morning when I woke up from a good night's sleep and I got to thinking about the day when I was to be discharged from the infirmary. I was impatient, wanting to be at home. I heard voices coming from the corridor at the end of the ward. It was then that I witnessed the young man trying to walk into the ward with two orderlies gently guiding him to a bed. It was the young man's footwear, which then drew my attention. They were not the sort of leather boots that you would very often see on the streets of Liverpool in 1887. Why I should have had such thoughts I was not sure. Even his clothes were not the sort of style that you would encounter very often. I could trace what appeared to be a bit of a Liverpool accent with an American pitch to it as he tried to explain what his problem was. Perhaps he is a crew member of one of the many American ships that enter the thriving seaport of Liverpool.

Author Biography

Michael Kelly, was born in Liverpool in 1932 into a seafaring background. He was brought up in the city's Scotland road area, where history hung in the fog. He attributes his love of writing to his grandmothers and his school teacher Mr Ryan, and life experiences as a carpenter working on the fine liners for Cammell Laird Shipyard, though he has always been an historian at heart. His early writing consisted of fictional short stories such as The Night Watchman; Sunlight Beyond The Grave and non-fiction Liverpool's Irish Connection; The Life of Kitty Wilkinson; Mothers Of The City: Twenty Outstanding Liverpool Women. He now returns once again to fiction with Escape into the Rain.
