Peggy Lee had an unhappy childhood, which seems to be a necessary figure in the success stories of the show business world. Born Norma Doloris Egström, she lost her mother at the age of 4 and was brought up by a stepmother who treated her as a slave. At 7, she cooks, cleans the house, bakes bread, milks the cows, beats butter, does the laundry, at 8 she runs the house 7 days a week, and has to look after the newborn and between time she is beaten, because what she is doing is not good enough. But she has her happy moments, since as soon as she can, she joins her father at work, too drunk to work, she does her job.
On another front, Roosevelt declares war on Germany. But now, this life builds a strength of character and a capacity for revolt which will be the weapons that will lead Peggy to the top. The 28 tracks on this album are simply 28 masterpieces that she performs with Benny Goodman, Dave Barbour, Pete Candoli and others.
