This book offers an accessible, tutorial overview of how to use and deploy fibre channel. Following the standard's 5 layer architecture, the book provides guidance on the ANSI standard, the physical transmission level and interfaces to IP and SCSI. But motivating the entire discussion is how to "use" the standard in deploying storage networks, accessing mass storage, and creating local area networks capable of handling huge streams of video and media.
Author Biography
Dr. Alan F. Benner is currently a network architect and designer at IBM's Zurich Research Laboratory, concentrating on system-level design of communications systems for high-performance and enterprise computing platforms. His most recent work has involved interconnect design for high-performance distributed multiprocessor systems, and architecture definition for the InfiniBandTM architecture for server I/O and clustering.
