Description

In Victorian Era England, life is tough for girls of any age, unless they are royalty, peerage, or otherwise privileged in society. Poor girls worked at any employment they could find. Orphans had less opportunities for gainful employment than most. That's why Mary was thankful to her cruel Mistress, Lady Margaret Wolff, for saving her life and ensuring she had employment. Still in infancy, Mary lost her parents tragically. Lady Margaret saved her from certain death and raised her in the Wolff household. Though Lady Margaret and her daughter Adrienne treated Mary terribly, the child still found the strength to thank them for all they had endured to save her life and raise her. Wishing only to earn enough money to repay a debt to Lady Margaret, Mary sets off on her own to find better employment at the tender age of ten. She finds better employment and something she's never had before--a friend. With the help and encouragement of her friend, Mary learns many things. Ainsley is a gypsy at heart and is as free-spirited and adventurous as Mary is conserved and withdrawn. Together they grow up; they face many challenges and milestones. They also begin to question Mary's past, or what she's been told of it. On a grand and adventurous journey, they uncover facts about Mary's true past. Eventually, they reach a point at which they can no longer turn back; the truth is exposed. However difficult it might seem, how cruel and unfair, Mary learns the truth of her past. Always looking forward, Mary doesn't set her sites on revenge. Instead, she keeps Ainsley by her side and they traverse countries, homes, and families to put Mary where she rightfully belongs. Orphaned in infancy. Saved by a monster. Freed by a friend. How far forward will Mary's journey into her past take her?
