Teenager Ren MacCormack (Kevin Bacon) sends ripples through Bomont, a small Midwestern town that could stand some shaking up, when he arrives from Chicago with his mother, Ethel (Frances Lee McCain), to settle with her relatives. The adults tend to view him with suspicion as a possible contaminant from the outer world. Some of his male peers view him as a threat, and most of the girls just plain eye him. It’s tough times for Ren, whose father deserted him and his mother, leaving them financially and emotionally strapped. But Bomont is a new setting, a place for beginnings, and Ron intends to give it every chance.

He finds that the town ins autocratically run by the local minister, Rev. Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), who single-handedly manipulates community sentiment and has had a hand in the banning of certain books, all rock’n’roll music, public dancing and numerous other enjoyments that Ren had taken for granted in Chicago. From the moment he arrives in Bomont, Ren is harassed and ostracized. He immediately finds himself in conflict with the community, in a unique relationship with the minister’s free-spirited daughter (Lori Singer) and involved in a feud with her bullying boyfriend Chuck (Jim Youngs). His greatest ally turns out to be Willard (Chris Penn), good-natured schoolmate, slow to wit but quick to fight. Eventually, Ren galvanizes the youth of Bomont to confront the town’s narrow-mindedness, and in doing so, he forces Rev. Moore to re-examine his own relationships with his daughter, with his congregation, with his wife of 20 years, Vi (Dianne Wiest).

Pretty In Pink

Andie Walsh (Ringwald) is a bright, sensitive girl with a second hand wardrobe and three men in her life. First there is her father (Harry Dean Stanton). He doesn’t work and has been going down hill since wife left him and has been known to have a drink or three. There is Duck Dale (marvelously played by Jon Cryer). He’s been a pal of Andie’s for eight years and now he’s got an intense and unrequited crush on her. And then there’s Blair McDonough (Andrew McCarthy), a cute, rich preppie. He and Andie come from opposite sides of the tracks. So when they fall in love the differences between them (he drives a BMW and she’s ashamed of where she lives) bring barriers to their romance.

This is the exhilarating story of Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals), a fiercely determined and beautiful 18 year old women who works as a welder by day and dancer at a local bar at night. The film sparkles with the music of the 80’s including the hit single sung by Irene Cara “Flashdance – What A Feelingâ€
