Description

A unique feature of this book is that Michael suggests titles from his YouTube channel that enable the reader to watch and hear scenes that enhance the stories he tells in an easily readable style. He describes the unusual circumstances that persuaded him to set up the channel with the strange but understandable name Michael notthatone Parkinson. He had already promoted concerts and shows with moderate success when in 2010 he decided to combine recordings of sixties star Billy Fury with choreographed dance and narration, it was a great success so he put the show on at other venues finishing at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton which overlooks the Mersey where young Ronald Wycherley had worked on a tugboat before achieving fame as Billy Fury. There were 115 dancers and three narrators in that show and his mother, Jean got a standing ovation as she spoke to the audience and sang an encore of Halfway to Paradise. Michael video recorded what happened and loaded it to YouTube and includes the title so that readers can see it. But that is only 8 of 38 chapters, the others cover an American GI, Saara Aalto, the singer from Finland who sang for him in Leicester Square and the sad story of Jessica George. He walked the whole 184 miles of the Thames Path in small sections over three years and invites readers to look at videos he took along the way. Blackpool Tower ballroom is next with Phil Kelsall playing for dancing before Michael met 'feel your boobs' Joanna Forest at Brighton. In his cricket chapter he describes a group of youngsters who wrote a song considered too cheeky for Trent Bridge. He describes the emotional final appearance of Judith Durham and the Seekers at Nottingham before flitting to Scarborough Spa and the music played there. Michael went on Eurostar to Paris Disney with family and decided he liked 'It's a small world' best, of course it is a suggested video title for readers to look at. His biography of Eric Coates includes 'it is easy to mistake infatuation for love' and the Thursford Christmas Spectacular is a story of a traction engine shed converted to a theatre whilst the Thursford resident organist is featured in Nottingham Organ Society. Michael goes up market with the Royal Academy of Music and describes what Phab means before taking readers on a tour of London concert venues, he describes an innocent gathering of football supporters as Scottish Army Invade Trafalgar Square. An unlikely combination of victorian ballads and a poem about a girl in a wheelchair follow before a story about an evacuation of Southwark Cathedral led to a concert at Arnold. Michael includes stories from his childhood before describing his National Service, working life and an encounter with a lady afflicted with Alzheimers. If you can't sing but would like to, meet the tuneless choir and in total contrast Michael tells you all about the chamber choir of Drake University from Iowa, USA. This non fiction book will be the most unusual you have ever read.
