Dr. Zergabachew Asfaw has been practicing medicine for over Thirty years in Bronx New York. He graduated from Addis Ababa university as a doctor of medicine in 1979 and as a young graduate, he served as a medical director of st Mary hospital in Axum, Tigray, northern Ethiopia when Eritrean Liberation Front and Tigray Liberation Front were fighting against the Ethiopian Military rule of Mengistu Haile Mariam. In the early eighties, he completed postgraduate studies in medicine and pursued research career that enabled him to travel to different parts of Ethiopia. In 1989, he came to Yale University school of medicine as Fogarty International Fellow. He opted not to return Ethiopia because of political turmoil in the country and chose to pursue his medical career here in the United States. He completed his postgraduate studies in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics and has been serving Bronx community. He is particularly interested is serving the elderly patients and those with dementia and cognitive disorders. He has served as a medical director of different Skilled Nursing Facilities. He is a fellow of American College of physicians and member of numerous professional organizations. He is founding member and president of Hakim Workineh and Melaku Beyan society for International Development, that was established by Ethiopian medical professionals in North America. Dr. Asfaw has travelled widely and lives in Pomona, New York.
