Description

The "Architecture in Detail" series comprises books that focus on individual buildings noted for their exceptional character, innovative design or technical virtuosity. Each volume contains a text by a respected author, a sequence of colour and black-and-white photographs and a set of technical drawings and working details. The masterpiece of Greene and Greene's new regional style, the Gamble House was built for one of the millionaire partners of the soap firm Proctor and Gamble. The house represents the full aggrandizement of the California bungalow image, yet the building is still striking for its intimacy, intricacy and scale.

Author Biography

Edward Bosley is Associate Director of the Gamble House, and has written widely on Arts and Crafts architecture, including Greene and Greene, published by Phaidon.
