Description

Changes in the approaches to the history of the Reformation of the Church have radically altered our understanding of that event within its broadest social and cultural context. This concise study provides a synthesis of the main research, with special emphasis on the German Reformation, and presents Professor Scribner's own interpretation of the period. The second edition of this text includes a new introduction, a supplementary chapter and a supplementary bibliography by C. Scott Dixon.

Author Biography:

R. W. SCRIBNER was Professor of Modern European Christianity in the Divinity School at Harvard University until his death in 1998. Prior to this, he was Lecturer in History at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Clare College. - C. SCOTT DIXON is Senior Lecturer in European History at The Queen's University of Belfast.
