The author sees Jesus being perceived as a "spare tire" or "vending machine." The other side of the coin is the one often neglected; the opportunity to serve and witness is often overlooked. God did not save us to be comfortable; He saved us to comfort others and in the process to be comforted ourselves. Quality thoughts and values come from a better quality of believing and behaving.
