"Sensitive and restrained. Excellent acting."

A film which should be viewed by anyone who was brought up on the A.A.Milne Winnie the Pooh stories. The huge international popularity of the books was something I never realized although I had read many years ago that Christopher Robin had, understandably, a most unenviable time at school as a result. The entire movie was very well filmed and showed clearly the inspiration for most of the locations in the stories. Thoroughly recommended.

"A very lovely movie"

This is a very beautifully filmed movie about the background to the writing of the Winnie the Pooh books, the effect of serving in WWI on A A Milne and his friend Ernest Shepard, who illustrated the books, and the relationship Milne had with his son Christopher Robin whose stuffed toys were the inspiration for the books. The books became internationally popular propelling A A Milne and his son to celebrity status.

I wonder if this is how children view their PTSD afflicted parents- An enjoyable biopic of AA Milne, Christopher Robin , Pooh Bear and the rest is history:)

Description

Goodbye Christopher Robin

GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children's author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne, and his nanny Olive (Kelly Macdonald), Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?

Critic Reviews:

  • " Curtis successfully balances his film's sadder elements with moments of merriment and bliss, and he gives the scenes of bonding between awkward father and neglected son an appropriately honey-golden glow. " – Jason Best
  • " This is the kind of the movie that words like ‘nice’ or ‘precious’ were invented to describe. " – Allen Almachar
  • " A lovely and wistful walk down memory lane that reminds us that the past isn't always sunny as we may want to believe, " – Matthew Lucas
