"Gozu = Cow headed demon. You have no idea..."
5 stars"

“One of the strangest pieces of Japanese cinema ever made” – Such an understatement!

This film is definitely strange. If you like your movies to be straightforward, then this probably isn't for you. But if you like to watch movies that make you go “wha…?” then jump on into this!

The whole time I was watching this movie, I felt like I was dreaming. No even more, I felt like I was dreaming within a dream. That would be the only logical explaination for what my eyes were seeing.

This film is chock full of the most bizarre themes and imagery you will ever come across, yet Takashi Miike makes it all come together, as only he can.

Actually quite a quiet film, this film doesn't have much of the violence that Miike's fans are used to seeing, but he makes up for it in strange!

With some icky bits (cows tongues are SO gross) and some perversely hilarious bits (the spirit conjuring scene is a cracker) and even a few totally random bits (cue card girl is a hoot, pay close attention to the subtitles, it's Japenglish reversed), this film will keep you guessing right up to the last, and even then you'll be scratching your head in befuddlement.

Don't do drugs children, all you need to do is watch this movie and you'll be tripping for days =)

Description

One of the strangest pieces of Japanese cinema ever made, Gozu is a surreal and visceral film of cartoonish perversity from Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer). Minami is a low-level yakuza ordered to assassinate his eccentric boss, who also happens to be his closest friend. When his target disappears before he can do the job, Minami begins a search that leads him through an increasingly bizarre town, and seemingly his own mind. He is pursued by a lactating woman, a transvestite coffee shop owner, an American who reads Japanese dialogue off giant cue cards, and the minotaur-headed Gozu. Detached from genre and thoroughly unpredictable, Gozu is a stand-out in Miike’s filmography. Nightmarish and hilarious at the same time, the film weaves themes of love, loyalty and re-birth with a demented post-logic only Miike could imagine.
